Escape is a first-person adventure game.  My task with the office building level was to create a space that has been devastated by and explosion.  Because of this player needs to escape from the building before it comes down around them.  Through the use of lighting and level flow I guide the player from one hazard to the next, but leave room for a bit of exploration as well.  There are a number of hidden objects scattered throughout the level that the player can try to locate if they're willing to risk it.

The player starts in an office adjacent to an open panoramic lobby that presents a view of the only chance of escape from this burning, collapsing building.

Midway through the level, the player gets another glimpse of hope and confirmation that they're making progress.

I scripted an event for this room that causes the ceiling to collapse so that when the player returns, a new path has opened up for them to take in order to progress.

This is the main floor plan for the level.  Even with these early plans, additions had to be made to improve the experience towards the end of the level.  To that end, the room in the previous image was added and the path was altered slightly.  These changes added a sense of urgency and excitement to that helps keep the player interested and motivated.
