The Assistant
Key Roles:
Software Used:
Level Designer, Scripter
Unity, Photoshop
The Assistant puts the player into the role of Dr. Frankenstein's assistant tasked with gathering the final components that the doctor needs. This re-imagining of the classic tale by Mary Shelly takes place in a subterranean town that is mildly inspired by the diesel punk aesthetic. It is here that the industrious Dr. Frankenstein has been working on his greatest creation.
This is a compound level design that consists of multiple locations that can be explored and tackled in any order, and depending on the choices the player makes they can even tackle them in different ways. There are elements of combat, stealth, platforming, and puzzle solving separated by dialog sequences and scripted events. This varies the pace of game-play making each event new and fresh.
At the center of the main cavern in which the story takes place lies a haphazard shanty town. The player must traverse this space multiple times from multiple directions in order to complete their tasks.

The scrap yard is the location for one of the required tasks, but is home to a number of very territorial, and hungry, guard dogs. This location is loaded with scripting for the elevator, the gate keeper, the dogs and all of the events for them.

The interior of the Power Plant is crawling with the zealots that keep the lights on. They do not appreciate intruders and vigilantly patrol the catwalks. The player must manage to get past them in order to acquire one of the necessary parts.

Here you see a simple paper map that I used to plan the layout of the level.
